Build Robots. Build Friendships. Build Confidence! Looking for new activities to inspire your child outside the school!! Three words: Robotics for Kids! Robotics for Kids uses fun, hands-on projects to get your child’s creative juices flowing. Your child will learn how to build and program robots with EV3 bricks and software — all while making friends, developing new skills and having a great time with STEM. For many kids, Robotics class is the highlight of their weekly schedule. We have several kids’ robotics programs available to fully engage and challenge your aspiring engineer, computer programmer or scientist. First timer? No problem! Your child is welcome. He or she can jump into Robotics without any prior experience. How we teach kids robotics each week? In each Robotics for Kids class, your child and a buddy work together to plan and build a new robot using EV3 bricks, letting their creativity and imaginations loose. Along the way, they learn science and engineering concepts, such as how pulleys, lever and motors work. As the kids’ robots take shape, they experiment with EV3 Education’s award-winning software. They discover how to apply computer programming concepts and find new ways to get their “bot” moving. Then, the energy levels (and smiles) really reach a high point, as the kids challenge other teams to friendly games or take part in imaginative play. At the end of each robotics class, your child enjoys a wrap-up activity to reinforce the STEM skills he or she learned in class. (You’ll hear all about it on the way home.) A few reasons your child (and you!) will love Robotics for Kids: • Unique STEM curriculum. While your child is having a blast creating robots, you’ll know he or she is learning practical STEM skills. (Just imagine how these new-found skills could inspire your child in the future!) • Creative problem-solving. Interesting fact isnt’t it? Most hobbyists love to work with acrylic paints. For sculptures, moulding, facial features, many artists use acrylic painting. It is easier to clean the brushes after ise, since acrylic paints need only water to wash them off.

Sand painting

Painting on sand can be quite messy and it’s a temporary art. The sand painting can be captured on video using speed motion, to understand how the artist works on them. It’s normally done with minimal light, but has a focus light under the table where the sand painting is being created. Sand painting is created using coloured sands, which is moved around on a fixed surface using hands. It is practised in many countries and is known by several names, in India it’s known as kolam or rangoli.

What is Jolly Phonics?

Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers, who can see their students achieve. The letter sounds are split into seven groups as shown below.

Letter Sound Order

The sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically). This enables children to begin building words as early as possible.

How does Jolly Phonics work?

Using a synthetic phonics approach, Jolly Phonics teaches children the five key skills for reading and writing. The programme continues through school enabling the teaching of essential grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.

The five skills taught in Jolly Phonics

1.Learning the letter sounds

Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds. This includes alphabet sounds as well as digraphs such as sh, th, ai and ue.

2.Learning letter formation

Using different multi-sensory methods, children learn how to form and write the letters.

3.Blending

Children are taught how to blend the sounds together to read and write new words.

4.Identifying the sounds in words (Segmenting)

Listening for the sounds in words gives children the best start for improving spelling.

5.Tricky words

Tricky words have irregular spellings and children learn these separately.

Learn how to play Chess

Regular classes are scheduled on weekends. Fully structured chess curriculum handouts will be handed out for all grades. Assessments will be conducted at the end of the Beginners, Elementary & Intermediate stages and upon passing will enable the trainees to move on to the next grade. Certificate of Participation will also be given out to all students at the end of the course. Chess is a classic two person board game. It is played with specially designed pieces on a square board made up of 64 alternating light and dark squares arranged in eight rows and columns. First appearing around A.D. 600, the game steadily evolved into the modern game known today. The earliest methods of production involved carving the board and pieces out of wood or stone. Today, a variety of common modern manufacturing methods such as injection molding and lithographic printing are employed to mass produce thousands of games. The objective of the modern chess game is to force the opponent’s most important piece, the king, into checkmate. This is a position in which the king cannot be moved to avoid capture. The player with the white pieces begins the game by moving a piece to another square following the rules that govern piece movement. The players alternate moves until one player is either checkmated, resigns, or there is a draw. Thousands of books have been published relating to the strategies during the three key stages of Chess, including the opening, the middle game, and the end game.

Calligraphy is a form of ornamental handwriting found in various cultures throughout the world and whose origins date back to ancient times. A contemporary definition of calligraphic practice would be: “the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner.” Calligraphy is the art of forming beautiful symbols by hand and arranging them well. It’s a set of skills and techniques for positioning and inscribing words so they show integrity, harmony, some sort of ancestry, rhythm and creative fire. Advantages of Calligraphy : 1. Calligraphy nurtures your spirit 2. Calligraphy cultivates your heart 3. Calligraphy cultivates your vision 4. Calligraphy nurtures the concept of aesthetics 5. Writing within the allotted time span with legibility and speed plays an important role in everyone’s life, whether a student or a professional. Writing with speed and legibility has an important role to play. It enables students to compose with correct spellings and quality content to express their knowledge about different subjects. It has been proved in various studies that speed adds to one’s ability to think and also play a vital role in learning the language and its vocabulary. It also adds to the quality of verbal communication. A person with slow handwriting has poor mind-motor coordination, which affects his ability to remember spellings, has problems in letter formation, shaping the letters and ill formed upper and lower cases. In competitive exams or regular school exams, a particular method for assessing an individual’s ability is followed, wherein one’s knowledge is tested within a particular time. Failure to do so not only affects the performance, but also has an adverse effect on the confidence of the student. Your knowledge gets unrecognized if your speed is under 30 words per minute. Research shows that speed writing is a major factor in competitive examinations. Students whose abilities to express are compromised due to learning disabilities like Dyslexia or Dysgraphia are also assessed on basis of their subject knowledge expressed in writing. The competency levels of majority of students seem to get adversely affected due to slow writing and it is often perceived to be inadequate for survival in the competitions. A major misconception is that with increased writing speed, the legibility of handwriting deteriorates. Our teaching techniques ensure a good writing speed without any adverse effect on the quality of handwriting.

Handwriting is an essential skill for children. Even in the age of technology, handwriting remains the primary tool of communication and knowledge assessment for students in the classroom. The demands for handwriting are great, whether in the classroom or beyond.

Many standardised assessments are based on written work, particularly in time-limited written examinations. Without fast and legible handwriting, students will miss out on learning opportunities, under-achieve and may fall behind. Good handwriting remains as a major form of assessment for many formal qualifications.

Illegible handwriting can cause poor self-esteem. Poor self esteem can trigger loss of confidence.

Children who experience difficulty mastering handwriting may avoid writing and produce poor written work. Children with poor handwriting will find it hard to proof read their own work. They will then fail to spot their mistakes and their confidence may dip even lower.

Examiners need to decipher what is written. Otherwise, pupils will achieve lower marks, even where the content may be good. Many state standardised assessments and handwritten essays emphasise the importance of handwriting. Without fast and legible handwriting, students may miss out on learning opportunities and under-achieve academically.

Handwriting is critical to creative, well-crafted text affecting both fluency and the quality of the composition. Legible writing that can be produced comfortably, at speed and with little conscious effort allows a child to attend to the higher-level aspects of writing composition and content. Handwriting contributes to better writers. Children who have mastered it are better, more creative writers.

Handwriting is crucial for note taking. Taking notes by hand is vital for all students of all ages because it improves attention, comprehension, and results. Students’ notes must be self-legible, otherwise they are worthless.

Good handwriting is essential long after graduation. In our modern world, in all walks of life, people are judged by their handwriting. Jotting down a shopping list, writing a birthday card, taking down a phone message, completing a form at the bank, filling out immigration forms….handwriting is part of our daily lives. It is on show to others and may be used to make judgments about us.

Learning to write letters and numbers correctly is especially important when writing down e mail addresses, website URL’s, and phone numbers. One wrong letter or number can prevent communication.

Good writing skills can help you in life. If you’re trying to get a job, good writing skills make you more desirable to the employer. One of the first things an employer looks at is your cover letter or resume.

Throughout life :

Children, students, teachers, lecturers, parents feel happy, confident and inspired by good handwriting skills. Good handwriting is the platform for achievement in the workplace and self assurance in life. It is, and will remain, the key to progress and success.
